A Laravel developer writing about WordPress might sound like a conflict of interest. It is not. I use WordPress when it is the right tool, and I tell clients when it is not. Plenty of businesses have wasted money building custom software for something WordPress handles in a week. Plenty of others are wrestling with fifteen plugins to force WordPress to behave like an application. Both are avoidable.

I'm Arun Tyagi, a freelance developer in Sector 58, Noida. This page gives you the decision rules I actually use.

When WordPress fits

  • Content-first sites: blogs, company websites, news, portfolios, and landing pages.
  • Non-technical editors: your team writes and publishes without developer help.
  • Simple stores: a few dozen to a few hundred products with standard checkout, using WooCommerce.
  • Limited budget and quick launch: themes and plugins can cut weeks off the schedule.
  • SEO-driven publishing: mature tooling for metadata, sitemaps, and redirects.

For these, I will build you a clean, fast WordPress site, not a bloated theme with forty plugins.

When Laravel is the better choice

  • Users log in and manage their own data: dashboards, portals, customer accounts.
  • Subscription billing, multi-tenant SaaS, or complex user roles.
  • Heavy business logic such as pricing rules, inventory movements, or approvals.
  • APIs for mobile apps, which I cover on API development.
  • You expect the product to grow for years and want a codebase that stays tidy.

Forcing these into WordPress produces slow pages, security patches every month, and a codebase that scares the next developer. For deeper detail on the Laravel path, see Laravel development and Laravel SaaS development.

The hybrid pattern

Sometimes the best answer is both. A WordPress blog and marketing site on the main domain, with a Laravel application on an app subdomain. Marketing staff edit content freely, while the product logic lives somewhere stable. I have set this up for clients, and the key is a shared login and consistent branding, so users do not feel the join.

What my WordPress work includes

  1. Lightweight theme, custom or carefully chosen, without page-builder bloat where possible
  2. Only plugins that earn their place, each reviewed for maintenance and security
  3. Speed work: caching, image compression, and cutting unused scripts
  4. SEO setup: titles, schema, redirects, XML sitemap
  5. Security hardening: login protection, file permissions, backups
  6. Content editor training so you are self-sufficient

Rescue jobs

Hacked sites, broken updates, white screens, and sites made slow by plugin pile-ups are a regular part of my WordPress work. I start with a backup, then clean and diagnose. A typical rescue ranges from Rs.5,000 to Rs.25,000, with a plan to prevent it recurring through maintenance and support.

Questions to ask yourself first

  • Is this mainly content, or mainly a tool people use?
  • Who will update it, and how often?
  • In two years, do I expect features I cannot predict today?

If you are torn, send me the idea. I will give you a direct answer, usually in one message. For general web services, see web development and pricing.

Frequently asked questions

When should I choose WordPress over Laravel?

For content-led sites, company websites and simple stores where editors publish without a developer. Choose Laravel when you need logins, custom workflows or complex data.

Can you fix a slow or hacked WordPress site?

Yes. I audit plugins, theme code and hosting, remove what is unsafe, and improve load time before adding anything new.

Do you build custom themes or use page builders?

Either, depending on who edits the site. A custom theme is faster and cleaner; a page builder gives editors more layout freedom.

Can WooCommerce handle my store?

For a few dozen to a few hundred products with a standard checkout, usually yes. Unusual pricing or order rules are better on a custom platform.
